About UGC NET –  

The National Eligibility Test (NET) is a national-level examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), as entrusted by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to determine the eligibility of an Indian individual for the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assitant Professor.  

It’s a computer-based exam held in English and Hindi on over 83 subjects, from social sciences to diverse linguistics and literature. The UGC NET exam includes 2 papers, where paper one is focused on logical reasoning, aptitude, and general awareness, and paper two is solely subject-oriented. The exam duration is 3 hours with no breaks between paper 1 and paper 2 and the total marks are stipulated to be 300. 

The UGC NET is conducted across 398 cities, and an average of 4000 to 5000 candidates appear for this exam every year. The questions are MCQ-based and devoid of negative markings. There are 150 questions in total, including 50 for paper 1 and 100 for paper 2, with a +2 score devoted to every correct answer.

UGC NET Registration Process for 2024 

Here’s a step-by-step guide to registering for the upcoming UGC NET exam in December 2024! 

Step 1: 

Visit the official NTA website via https://ugcnet.nta.ac.in/ and register by clicking on the “New Registration” option.  

For registration, you would require a valid email address and phone number. Once your registration ID is successfully created, you will receive your login credentials at the given email address and phone number. 

Step 2: 

Next, you must open the UGC NET 2024 application form using the application number and password you received and start filling out the form details. 

In this step, you have to enter details like permanent address, residential address, guardian/parent’s name, age, gender, nationality, category, last educational qualification, and so forth.  

Besides, this step would also encompass choosing your preferred exam center and medium of examination. 

Step 3: 

After entering the necessary details, read the given instructions carefully and click on the “I Agree” checkbox. 

Step 4: 

Now, you have to upload the requisite documents to back your information claims, like ID proof, photograph, signature, category certificate (if applicable), etc. Make sure you provide the documents in the mentioned size and format.  

Step 5: 

Once done, navigate to the payment page and make your fee payment for UGC NET 2024 using either of the payment options, such as Credit/Debit Card, UPI, NET Banking, etc.

After payment, hit the “Submit” button and download the confirmation page for future reference. You can also take a printout of it! 

UGC NET Eligibility Criteria for 2024  

Nationality

The candidate must be an Indian Citizen. 

Age Limit 

There’s no age limit for assistant professorship. However, for JRF, the age limit is 30 years.  

Educational Qualification 

Master’s Degree 

Subject Eligibility 

The candidate must choose the same subject as was pursued in post-graduation

Number of Attempts 

There are no limits on the number of attempts
