No NEET-UG 2024 Re-exam - Says Supreme Court Verdict

The much-awaited question on the updates of the NEET-UG 2024 Re-exam is finally here! After a significant dilemma regarding the re-exam or cancelation of the recently conducted NEET exam, Hon’ble SC has given its verdict, that there will be no re-test for NEET-UG 2024. The step is taken to prevent injustice on over 24 lakh students who appeared for the premier medical entrance exam.

The bench of CJI DY Chandrachud and justices J.B. Padriwala and Manoj Mishra in their judgment mentioned that no solid sources have been found that suggest that the complete NEET 2024 results were rigged, neither any material proofs are available that prove the fault of the conducting body, nor any data on systemic leak of exam papers have been found on a national level. However, the court has acknowledged that there is no dispute that papers were leaked, but to preserve the future of students not at fault, the plea for UG re-exam has been rejected.

The reasons highlighted by SC for saying no to NEET Re-exam are to avoid:

1. Delays in admission schedules of medical colleges
2. Disruptions in the availability of medical professionals in the future.
3. Adverse impacts on marginalized and sincere students.

Another dispute ongoing regarding the NEET-UG 2024 exam is the tussle on the right answer to a particular question affecting the results of around 4 lakh students. The apex court had sought a committee of IIT-Delhi, including three experts from the concerned department (physics). The committee report suggests that the answer in NTA’s answer key was indeed correct, i.e., Option 4, hence the court has ordered NTA to issue revised NEET results based on it.

Statement II: Atoms of each element are stable and emit their characteristic spectrum.

In the light of the above statements, choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below:
(1) Statement I is incorrect but Statement II is correct.
(2) Both Statement I and Statement II are correct.
(3) Both Statement I and Statement II are incorrect
(4) Statement I is correct but Statement II is incorrect.

As per the IIT-Delhi report, the correct answer is Option 4. Which thereby has been accepted by the Supreme Court as well. 

To sum up, it can be said that the judgment to deny the petition for the NEET-UG re-exam is based on the court’s ability to look at all the exam candidates from the lens of justice, thereby segregating the students at fault from the ones who are not. Besides, the Hon’ble SC has also stated that it has offered the ruling on a collective basis, however, NEET students with Individual grievances have their rights intact to pursue and seek remedies as per law.
