Overview of the AFCAT Exam 2025

Every year, the Indian Air Force conducts their selection process of candidates to recruit the force across different posts through a common entrance test, known as the Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT). The exam is conducted PAN India, twice a year, to fill the multiple posts in flying duty, ground technical and ground non-technical duty of the Air Force. 

The IAF allows both men and women interested to join the national defence forces, to apply for the AFCAT exam, to secure a job in the air force of India particularly. 

The exam is conducted in three phases - the first being a computer-based MCQ-type online test, followed by a personality test conducted at the different AFSB (Air Force Selection Board) Centres (as selected by the candidate), and commencing with a medical examination.

Eligibility for AFCAT Exam

As with every other exam, the AFCAT also has some eligibility criteria for candidates to follow. The eligibility criteria for AFCAT are based on two aspects, firstly, age-based eligibility and secondly, educational qualification.

Age-based eligibility criteria to apply for AFCAT 2025

1. Flying-branch candidates: For candidates applying to land the flying duty positions in the IAF, the age limit, as per the AFCAT eligibility guidelines is between 20 and 24 years.

2. For Ground (Technical & Non-technical) Duty Candidates: The age limit to apply for ground duties in the IAF is between 20 and 26 years.

Educational Qualifications For AFCAT 2025 Exam

1. Educational Qualifications For Flying Branch Applicants:

• Candidates must have cleared their 12th class examination with at least 60% marks in Maths and Physics, each.
• Must hold a bachelor’s degree in BE/BTech/passed section A and B exams of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised University with 60%.

2. Educational Qualifications For Ground Duty - Technical Branch Applicants:

• For the Aeronautical engineer position, the candidate must clear their class 12 with 60% each in Physics and Mathematics along with a four-year degree in Engineering/Technology OR Must have cleared sections A and B of Associate Membership of the Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India or Graduate membership examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers by actual studies with 60% in disciplines specified by the examination authority. 

• For the Aeronautical Engineer (Mechanical) position, candidates must pass their Class 12 with 60% in Physics and Mathematics and degree/integrated post-graduation in Engineering/Technology. Or, clear section A&B exam of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers (India) or Aeronautical Society of India from a recognised university with 60%

• For the Weapon Systems (WS) Branch, the educational qualifications include a minimum of 50% each in Maths and Physics at 10+2 level, a Graduation degree of at least three years in any discipline from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% or equivalent. A BE/B.Tech degree (Four-year course) with a minimum of 60% or equivalent.

• For the Accounts Branch, the candidates need to have passed Class 12 and completed graduation in B Com Degree (Minimum three years courses),  Bachelor of Business Administration (with specialization in Finance)/Bachelor of Management Studies (with specialization in Finance)/ Bachelor of Business Studies (with specialization in Finance), Qualified CA/ CMA/ CS/ CFA or B.Sc. with specialization in Finance streams and 60% marks or equivalent from a recognized university.

3. Educational Qualifications For Ground-duty Non-technical Applicants:

• Education branch applicants must hold a Post-Graduation degree with a minimum of 50% marks in any discipline including integrated degrees, and with 60% in Graduation in any discipline.

• For the Meteorology post, the candidate must have cleared their class 12 and B.Sc with Physics and Mathematics with at least 60% or equivalent or four-year Graduation in Engineering/Technology discipline with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent in the below-mentioned streams.

AFCAT Exam 2025 Application Procedure:

Once the notifications are out for the AFCAT 2 Exam for the year 2025, candidates will be required to fill out an application form. The application form is a two-part form, one being a simple registration for the exam, and the second will be a detailed AFCAT application form. 

Here’s how to apply for AFCAT 2 Exam 2025 online:

1. Visit the official IAF Website or the application site for AFCAT.

2. Go to Candidate Login.

3. Then, select the “AFCAT Exam Cycle” i.e., Cycle 2 in this case.

4. Register by entering the necessary details.

5. Choose course preference.

6. Mention where you got to know about the exam from (advertisement source).

7. Enter communication details, upload documents, sign the declaration, select the exam city, etc.

8. Pay the exam fee (INR 250/- to be paid ONLINE).

9. Submit the form.
